9.354 Fueling Up

It is getting so hot out now... summer is here! I still don't have a beach body, but that'll probably never happen anyway because I love food and sweets too much to give it all up together haha.

Speaking of food, the Mister and I haven't been doing much on the weekends except for sometimes eating out at restaurants.

We like to visit familiar places like Swiss Chalet, Earl's, China Garden etc. But recently, we agreed that we would get out of our comfort zone and try new places from now on. Visiting old places won't be entirely off the map, but for the most part it is.

sometext
And if we visit old places, I think it would be a great idea to try new different food items on the menu. The above dish from Earl's is something the Mister consistently orders, but I want to try it for myself sometime. It looks so good!

This was the washroom inside Earl's. It looks so funky.

Boston Pizza
50 Courtney Park Drive, Mississauga, ON L5T 2Y

This was when we ate at Boston Pizza. Neither of us have ever eaten here before. When we came in the door, the servers pretty much ignored us for a good minute before someone was free to show us our seat.

We ended up ordering a custom pizza. The wait time for it wasn't too bad. When they brought it out, it looked quite fancy having it's own pedestal and pizza serving utensil.

Being advertised as gourmet, it did indeed taste really good. The dough was crispy and fluffy at the same time. The perfect amount of moistness and crispiness. The pizza was full of flavour. I would definitely like to come back again.

Overall: Ambience B-, Food A+, Service B-, Price A.

Since we are on the topic of trying new restaurants, my elder sister brought me, the Mister and my younger sister to a Middle Eastern restaurant and hookah lounge (can't remember the name). We didn't go to try the shisha, we went to go eat the food.

The Mister and I weren't that hungry so we just got a wrap.

sometext
My sisters got the real meals though. Looks good. I won't rate the restaurant though because I don't think it'd be fair basing it on a wrap I ate. The place being a lounge, seemed like it was a nice place for people to literally just hang out. It was quite interesting.

Other than eating, the Mister and I go to Walmart every weekend to buy some food for work for the week. It's become one of our rituals. I was just thinking... when we first started dating we would always go to Square One every weekend. Then every weekend we started to go downtown. I guess this Walmart thing will one day just be "one of those things we used to do"... so we should enjoy it while we can :)

sometext
One day when I move out to my own place, I think I will frequent T&T quite often. I rarely visit now, but when I do, I go all out.

sometext
All the stuff I got. I got the Vermont Curry because I want to try to make Judy's Japanese curry one day. I got a bunch of ramen because I love to eat it. The Cheese one is a new one I recently discovered. I also got a bunch of masks, but more on that in a different post.

sometext
This is my favourite ramen. It's by Paldo and it's delicious.

sometext
When I was in T&T, I stumbled upon their cheese ramen version and decided to try it. It tastes pretty good! I'd recommend it.

sometext
My favourite ramen though, is this Hot Chicken Flavour ramen by Samyang. It's like a fried version so there is no soup to eat with it. I must warn you though, it's really spicy. I only use about half of the hot sauce otherwise it'd be too spicy to handle. Samyang makes the same spicy ramen that people did that hot ramen challenge that went around on youtube. I like this one because it has a delicious cheese flavour to it, and if you can handle spicy and don't add the whole packet of hot sauce, it's really delicious.

Anyway, I'll end it off here even though this post was all about food. I have some things lined up, like some jewelry, beauty and clothing hauls. I haven't even shared with you what I got from the Sephora VIB sale. But I guess in this way, I was able to try out the items so I can tell you about it when I share it with you.

See you soon.

9.353 Being MIA

Hellooo! I haven't forgotten you! I know that I've been totally MIA. I've been occupied with some things in my life which is the main reason why I haven't been blogging (priorities).

sometext
Between that, work, and the gym, I am watching Once Upon A Time again after unintentionally abandoning it years ago. I re-started from Season 1 and now I'm on Season 4. It's so good! I don't know why I ever stopped.

Besides watching tv shows, I've been watching a lot of movies on the weekend. This is mainly what the Mister and I have been up to. We're in "save money" mode so money has been a bit tight and we aren't going out on our usual weekend downtown excursions as we always tended to do. I've watched John Wick, Logan, Beauty and the Beast, Fate of the Furious... and look forward to Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor, The Mummy and many more.

sometext
I haven't been totally on a shopping ban though. I bought this faux fur scarf off of YesStyle when it was still cold out. A former coworker of mine had a really nice one but I haven't been able to find anything like it. This one is ok, although it doesn't have the same feel and look I am looking for.

The weather has been getting really good. We had our last snow a couple weeks ago and now it's getting warmer.

I love when the stores start bringing out their spring decor. Makes me think about being able to enjoy the outdoors again.

Here are a couple of items I picked up from HomeSense to display on my windowsill.

The glass mushroom adds a nice punch of colour.

How my windowsill looks like so far.

sometext
You can really find some interesting items at HomeSense. Take for example this cool light fixture.

sometext
sometext
The item I totally scored on was this lamp! I broke my Ikea lamp last year but never replaced it because I couldn't find something I loved... until now. I love how unique and rustic it is. It doesn't go well on my nightstand, but I wanted it anyway so that I can have it for my future home. I can see it in a hallway or foyer. The lampshade also has this hotel feel that I like.

sometext
With spring, comes spring cleaning. I cleaned out my closet and room and ended up with 3 bags to donate.

I also got to cleaning the car- which has been filthy because of winter.

sometext
I guess I'll end this post here. Until next time!

9.352 Family Time! Out On the Slopes + Out to Eat

sometext
This winter I went skiing with my family. I haven't skied since I was 12.

sometext
The day started with breakfast at McDonald's. I don't even remember the last time I had McDonald's breakfast with my family. I heard McDonald's now has all day breakfast, which is nice because now I can eat their hash browns any time I want.

sometext
The day was perfect for skiing. It wasn't too cold, there wasn't much of a breeze either, and there was a light sprinkling snow occasionally throughout the day.

sometext
sometext
The ski boots remind me of rollerblades. I remember back in 7th grade on our ski trip, we had to tell the workers our weight so they could give us the right skis to ski with. I remember feeling so bad and embarrassed telling them my weight, it made me feel so self-conscious. This time we didn't even have to tell them our weight, they just gave us the skis.

sometext
sometext
I remembered some things about how to ski, but I definitely had to re-learn finding my balance all over again. I fell so many times, so much that I felt like I was the only one wiping out so badly.

sometext
The bunny hill lifts they had at this place were ones that you stand on. I honestly didn't like it. I'd rather have something that I can hold onto. There were times where I would start sliding back a little, and with nothing to hold onto, there was nothing I could do but to brace myself for the worse. At one point there was a pile up of people because someone was slipping down pushing the person behind them onto the next and so forth. After that incident, I always took one ski off when I got on.

sometext
sometext
sometext
Skiing got fun as the day went on and I finally found my balance.

sometext
sometext
sometext
Then we all got hungry and went inside to eat.

I had a fun time with my family. The only part I hated was that there was this a**hole that worked there who had an attitude problem. And unlucky for me, he was there when I somehow managed to get my ski stuck in the lift conveyer belt while trying to get off, causing some major pile up. I fell in the process but the only thing he said to me was, "See? That's why you get off at spot (earlier area) if you don't have both skis on!" If he was like that only at that point, I'd understand, but this guy was an a** all day. I should have blew up in his face. F*cking ruined my experience.

sometext
Anyway, my sisters and I went to Winterlicious again this year.

sometext
sometext
My sister and I were planning to meet my other sister downtown. We went early so that we can shop a bit but we literally came into a mall situation where everyone was being evacuated.

sometext
We decided to try out the Drake Hotel this time. At first I didn't think it was literally a restaurant of a hotel. I thought it was just a name... but it was literally a hotel.

sometext
sometext
The hotel was quite small and to our disappointment, the dining/bar where the restaurant would normally be was closed off for a wedding party.

sometext
sometext
sometext
sometext
So instead, we were seated in the Drake Cafe. It didn't have the same ambience as an actual restaurant would have obviously, but it was still quite cozy.

sometext
For starters, I chose the Butternut Squash Soup. It tasted so good!

sometext
My sister chose the veggie maki.

sometext
sometext
Then for our main, we all chose the Ontario Bavette Steak. It was very savoury and delicious. Very good steak.

sometext
For dessert, I chose the Panna Cotta. It was interesting, very different as I've never had this before.

Service was okay. A bit slow but I can't really give a fair review since there was a wedding going on and that probably took a lot of the staff's attention.
