6.217 If I Knew Then What I Know Now...

While I was going through my email, for some reason, I decided to jump right to the beginning of my inbox (5 years ago) and came upon a very old email from my ex. I know what you must be thinking, delete it right away and don't even bother reading. Well, I did the opposite. I wanted to see how far I've come and compare what I know now to what I knew then. Contrary to what you must think, the email wasn't what you'd expect from a lover. In fact, it was a letter mindf*ck (excuse my language). I couldn't even finish reading it because it was that bad. It boggles my mind now why I didn't just drop the guy right then and there. It was a prime example of and what happens when you're with the wrong person; too many wrong things will happen. But when you're with the right person, everything just falls into place. I've been with the Mister for over a year now and he's never once put problems in our way or made me feel like I didn't matter. No one should make you feel like you don't have a voice or a right to express how you feel. You should feel good in a relationship, not bad. I can't even fathom my past relationship let alone think about being in that kind of relationship again. I'm much more happier now and so thankful to be where I am now. I am lucky to be with the Mister and on countless occasions have been told that it's hard to find a man like him around anymore. He always puts me first and makes me feel super special. I truly feel blessed.

So if you ever find yourself in a relationship that doesn't feel quite right, then for the love of yourself, don't settle. Being single isn't that bad. Eventually one day you'll find someone who fulfills you and makes you feel like you're the only one. When you're with the right person everything really does fall into place- and I'm not just saying that. Everything will just feel... right. You'll just know. Trust me.

On another note, here is my vegetable garden this year! Okay, it might be hard to make it out because I haven't weeded that much though. This year I'm also growing kale as you can see on the far right. My sister bought those at the market.

sometext
I bought some containers from Dollarama to grow some cherry tomatoes, chili, jalapenos, and Thai basil (which isn't pictured here).

sometext
My beloved lilac that I post pictures of every Spring (I'm pretty sure it's a Syringa vulgaris "Krasavitsa Moskvy" variety). This year is the most blooms I've every seen it have (every branch has a bloom!). If I ever moved, this would be the one plant that I would really miss most. It's my "baby" and I've become really attached to it.

6.216 One Step Forward

From the start I knew that building a strong relationship with the Mister required some tactics. I learned from a past experience that a relationship could easily crumble if we don't nurture and care for it. If a relationship doesn't have a strong foundation, it makes it a lot easier for others to come in and sabotage it.

The main reason why the Mister and I kept our relationship a secret was because we met at the workplace I currently work now (he quit last year and is now working someplace else). I don't like mixing my personal life and work life so that's the main reason why we kept it on the down low. The other reason was because at the time there were a few not-so-nice people working there. People I knew who would try to sabotage my relationship with the Mister if they knew we were dating (basically guys who were interested in me). For example, there was this one guy who I thought was my friend but fed me all sorts of lies about the Mister to try to prevent us from getting together (he made up some crazy sh*t that were borderline psychotic). And so, because our environment was unstable and unsafe for our relationship to be known, we kept it a secret, to safeguard it so that we can build the foundation needed for a strong relationship. We basically didn't want any interference. There's the opinionated people who will tell you straight up if they don't think you belong and then there are people out there who like to mess with relationships- especially when they're new and vulnerable. But since it's been more than a year that we've been together, nothing anyone says or does could damage our relationship.

I finally found some time to share my Mother's Day weekend. It also took me longer because I had to get some of the pictures off of my sister's phone (my camera phone at the time was giving me problems).

sometext
My mom is a very hard person to please so we figured dinner at a Taste of Thailand would be best since my mom loves Thai food.

sometext
The restaurant was small and cozy with a very unique interior.

sometext
Of course I had to order the Calamari to try. It was pretty good actually- par with Canyon Creek, but still, Moxie's reigns as the best.

sometext
What's Thai food without Mango Salad (Yum Ma-muang)? Very tasty.

sometext
Then we got some Thai curry, Kang Garie (Golden Curry). This was o-m-g. This was the dish that made me instantly think that I've got to come back here with the Mister because I want the whole bowl to myself! It was creamy, flavourful, with a hint of spice. So good!!

sometext
This Basil Beef was good. For some reason I can't find the exact name on the menu though.

sometext
Grilled Chicken (Gai Yang). This was okay, not mind blowing or anything but still good.

sometext
We also had rice to go with some of the food. It was a cute presentation indeed.

sometext
As for dessert, we got the Mango with Sticky Rice which was recommended by the waiter as an authentic Thai dessert. It was very unique in taste and delicious too.

sometext
Then we got Deep Fried Banana with Ice Cream (Coconut flavour). And on the same plate we also got a scoop of Vanilla and Mango ice cream.

Food was delicious, I would definitely come back again (and I will!). Service was good but super slow. It's a small restaurant that I don't think is capable of handling a lot of orders at once.

Overall: Ambience A, Food A+, Service B+, Price A.

Life Lessons: Depending on your situation, sometimes sharing your new relationship status isn't always the best idea. Yes, it would be ideal to profess your love for one another to the world but sometimes when you're in not-so-great environments with not-so-good people, you have to make a decision of whether or not it's safe yet to share your new beau. It's not a race, take as much time as you need before sharing "us" to the world.

6.215 The Next Gen

It's the age when youtubers are having babies and people I know are getting married. The next generation is coming and I wonder what they'll be called. You have the Parents of the Baby Boomers (otherwise known as the Silent Generation), the Baby Boomers themselves (who are our parents), Generation X (those born after the Boomers), and finally there's us, Generation Y or Baby Boom Echo/Millennials. My sister shared this very interesting post with me about Why Generation Y Yuppies are unhappy. It's about expectations and reality and it was really eye-opening. They way I was personally raised though never got me to think that I'm special in any way, but I can definitely apply that post to a few people I know.

And to lighten things up, I came upon a couple of parody videos of the song from Frozen. They are ingenious.

It's more funny if you've watched Frozen but they're both funny regardless.

Last Friday I took a day off work to go meet my cousin whom I've been meaning to hang out with. I hadn't used any of my sick days this year and I was in desperate need of a break so it was perfect timing. We met at Square One again but the funny thing was that both of us haven't been here for a while so that's why we wanted to come here.

I spent some time at Target while waiting for her to arrive and found a few necklaces I liked.
sometext
The first one I came across was this deer head pendent necklace. I have a liking towards "bones". Not like creepy gory stuff... but just a general liking towards skulls, antlers and things of that nature. One day I'm going to get myself a Crystal Head. I really love the glass skull.

sometext
And of course I spent some time in the clearance section. After rummaging around I found these two gems. I've been needing more dainty necklaces in my jewelry collection to layer with. The kitty pendent is so adorable and I saw a similar ring necklace at H&M but it was larger and not as nice as this one. I can't believe they used to be $16.99... that's a bit much, no?

sometext
Eventually we found ourselves here at Whole Foods again. I think her and I are both obsessed with this place. It's just too good!

sometext
Look at the assortment of sorbets! I like their presentation because not only do they have the names to each sorbet, you can visually see what each flavour is. I'm pretty sure I'll come back here on day in the summer with the Mister to get something. Looks yummers.

sometext
Got myself the last cheese bun.

sometext
This time I got Broccoli and Cheese soup. I've made this at home before because I tried a sample at Costco. The Mister loves it when I make this soup. This one at Whole Foods was really good. The drink, San Pellegrino Limonata was pretty good too. It was a sparkling lemonade that had some kick to it.

sometext
Last stop was at Chapters. I wanted to check out the things from illustrator Garance Doré. They're all so beautiful. If I had an iphone I would have totally got that iphone case.

sometext
I mainly wanted to check out her prints. I am interested in getting the one where the girl is wearing the sunglasses (far right). I want this and this high heel print to put in my closet. Wouldn't they look so chic side by side in a black frame?

sometext
Godiva truffles o-m-g. Best thing ever. I was tempted to get one but I wasn't willing to fork over $16 for it! Surprisingly I didn't pick up a single thing from Chapters this time around.

6.214 Great News!

Hello guys. I feel like I haven't been blogging about what's going on in my life besides some events and outings with the Mister. I'll make it brief here but I'll go into more depth in upcoming posts. Here goes:

1) First and foremost, I have great news... I am officially DONE paying off my student loans!! YAY!! I know that I could have paid it off a lot sooner if I was more diligent and didn't spend on frivolous things... but those frivolous things make me happy so that's okay. I'm just super happy that I finally got that debt off my back. I'm a free woman!
2) I know this might sound strange but the Mister and I kept our relationship a secret for over a year (only our families knew). We recently revealed it to everyone so now our relationship is out in the open. Don't worry, I'll explain in detail in another post.
3) The Mister and I are planning to go to Montreal in August as our mini-vacation. We hope to go for at least 5 days but I'm hoping for 7 =) I have never gone anywhere without family so this is really exciting planning my own trip.
4) I'm working on my room... again (it's always a work in progress lol). But this time I'm working on getting my closet more organized and structured in a way that better reflects what my dream closet would be like (one step closer is better than nothing). I went to Target and got a few things, will share soon!
5) I've been working on my vegetable garden! When it's sunny I'll take a picture and show you guys what I've been up to. I planted some seeds a few weeks back and they've already sprouted. I transplanted them outdoors just this past weekend.

Yikes, that's a lot of updates that I no longer have time to blog about =( I remember last year I would blog about everything. I'll try to keep this in mind so that it won't be information overload. I love blogging about everyday things because that's what my life is about; the small things. Besides, this is a personal blog, I love to blog because I love to look back at memories and to see how far I've come. It's quite similar to how Judy feels when she vlogs. Blogging is my outlet, my own personal journal online.

p.s. I spritzed some Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy perfume on (I love to spritz on some perfume before bed) and oh my gosh, I feel so nostalgic. That's what I love about perfumes and music. They both can bring me back in time.

6.213 April Products

sometext
I've been working through some hair products I've had for a while and that includes this Live Clean Professional Damage Therapy Restoring Spray. It's more of a natural product made with 96% plant derived ingredients and is phthalate and paraben free. It claims to repair split ends with kendi oil. Now I know that once your hair has split at the end, the damage is irreversible. You can only mask it but it can never be fully repaired. The only way to rid of split ends is to get a hair trim. The reason why I bought this anyway was because I was hoping that it would be nourishing in some way. Alas, this product does nothing for my hair. It doesn't feel any different and I haven't noticed any difference.

I have been using St. Ives  Mineral Clay Firming Mask for a long time now (not this particular tube, I've repurchased a few times) and I've always come back to it. It's a simple clay mask that you put on and wait to dry before washing it off. Made with kaolin clay, it deep cleans while it firms and tightens the skin. I like using this when I want to deep clean my face- it's a part of my deep clean regimen. I believe they have repackaged this but you don't need much to cover the entire face which is why I still have this tube.

I got this Caudalie Cleansing Water in some sort of perk package from Sephora (I believe it was the 500pts). It feels more like a skincare product than just a cleansing water. It does a good job of removing my face makeup and I like the light smell and how refreshing it feels.

sometext
Another Live Clean product, this time it's the Live Clean Glowing Daily Serum. The reason why I tried so many Live Clean products was because they use more natural based ingredients. The serum is more of a light lotion type of serum and it has a light fragrance. I actually don't enjoy using this serum and I don't really care for the product itself. It basically doesn't do anything for me. There's really not much to say about it except that I don't like it. I guess Live Clean products are a hit or miss for me- and most of them are misses.

I've been thoroughly enjoying using up my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex Serum (phew long name!). Light yet rich feeling serum and a pleasant smell makes this lovely to use at night before my night cream. They have a new formula out already but I won't be purchasing until I finish up my other serums (that includes samples). This serum gets rave reviews and I totally can see why. Definitely a winner and I won't say no to a product that provenly prevents and fights wrinkles!

I don't usually get obsessed with just one perfume as I like to spray on whatever I'm feeling that day but for the month of April I found myself completely obsessed with Tory Burch Eau de Parfum. I really like the citrus notes and how fresh it smells. The only downside to this perfume is that it doesn't last on me.

sometext
I got this Physicians Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner in a swap package from Ichigobunnie a while back when we used to send each other packages. I don't do eyeliner every time I go out so that's why I didn't open this until now (after I finished my other liquid liner). I really like this liner! I like how the tip is super fine and pointed so that it gives me incredible precision when applying (especially when I do the flick at the end). The formula isn't as intense as other ones I've tried but the colour is buildable. I also like that it doesn't have a super glossy finish- although it's not to say it's matte. It's a 2-in-1 eyeliner because it has lash serum in it but I don't use it often enough to see results.

I got this Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Mascara in a 100pts perk at Sephora. I like it okay. It's an average mascara for me, average at length and volume, nothing any other drugstore mascara can't do. Bottom line, I wouldn't spend $28 on it.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #5 "Fuchsia in Excess" is a bright fuchsia pink and it looks gorgeous on the lips. The Mister absolutely loves this lipstick on me. Without saying, I love the formulation of the Volupte Shines, they're moisturizing, they go on smooth, and the pigmentation varies per individual lipstick in the line.

sometext
It's an intense coloured lipstick. It's very bold and makes a huge statement. Very beautiful for Spring and Summer!

sometext
And lastly, non beauty items includes this Van Houtte French Vanilla Ground Coffee which I'm almost done with (I didn't realize the French side was facing when I was taking this picture lol. It's a lighter coffee so I like it when I don't want something strong. French vanilla is one of my favourite flavours so this goes without saying.

I've been busy burning up my candle and I couldn't have been more proud of myself when it came to this Bath and Body Works Midnight Pomegranate Candle. This was a new candle at the beginning of April and I managed to burn up the whole thing by the end of the month *so proud*. If you're not familiar with BBW candles, they have this safety mechanism so that the wick dies before it can reach all the way to the bottom (so that glass doesn't get super hot and crack- which I've witnessed in another non BBW candle). That's why there's always a layer of wax at the bottom. So far I've used up three 3-wick BBW candles and more is on the way!

Life Lessons: Sometimes there's just something about someone that turns my insides. Although I know not everyone gets along, there were times when I felt crazy for feeling this way because everyone else seemed fine with them. But after some time I came to learn that there were others who felt the same way I did. It's not about choosing sides but the idea that the not so great attributes in people will eventually be known to others. Sometimes it's just on the surface that makes it seem like no one notices, but remember that people aren't blind to these things either.

6.212 Probably The Most Boring Couple Ever

I only have about an hour to blog before I have to go get ready for work. April Monthly Products will have to be put on hold until I can find some time to do it, sorry!

Yes, I think me and the Mister might take the award of most boring couple ever because we are simple people who don't mind eating the same crap again and again and doing the same stuff over and over.
sometext
For instance, junk food. We know it's bad for us and it can get boring to eat but we do it anyway. We had a quiet evening at my house and sometimes we like to go out and walk to Shoppers Drug Mart or the fast food chains by my house. This time we wanted to try the Panzerotti at Pizza Pizza (we got the one with bacon and cheese in it). It looks humongous which is why we only got one to share. I can't imagine eating a whole one but I guess there are people out there who can devour the whole thing which is why they created for the hungry man.

sometext
Hello KFC. My brother is a health food nut and dies a little inside whenever he sees me eating anything fast food let alone KFC. The Mister loves KFC. But now he won't be able to eat junk food anymore (I'll also try to lessen my intake) because he started working out again.

sometext
One morning we dropped by McDonald's to get some breakfast because we went out really early. We got a couple of hashbrowns and apple pies and a Starbucks Bottled Vanilla Frappuccino from Shoppers Drug Mart. The apple pie from McDonald's has a more cinnamon flavour to them and they're not as crispy as the McCain's you get from Pizza Pizza. Both me and the Mister prefer the one from Pizza Pizza.

sometext
sometext
Then we headed downtown (surprise surprise, what's new?).

sometext
And watched Transcendence because the Mister wanted to see it. I actually liked the movie. I give it 8.5/10 even though the ratings online aren't that great.

sometext
And dun dun dun... Swiss Chalet again because we thoroughly enjoyed it the last time we came here.

sometext
We both ordered the double leg dinner (I should have stuck with the Quarter Chicken Dinner because I was stuffed by the end). We got the same sides we ordered from last time- mine being the sweet potato fries and his being the baked potato.

sometext
For dessert, he got the Sticky Toffee Pudding again and I got the Classic Fudge Cake. We both couldn't finish our desserts though haha. This was the Mister's last dessert so now he's off of sugar and sweets.

Now after all those pictures of junk food I kind of feel sick to my stomach =S Hopefully I'll steer clear of junk food for a while.

And speaking of food, here are some food items from Costco that I've been loving.
sometext
So I found the Snapeas snack I bought at Whole Foods at Costco. These are so much cheaper because there are 36 packs in a box for only about $11. The larger bag I bought at Whole Foods was $6 but has significantly less than what is contained in this box.

sometext
These Maple Flavoured Twists are also pretty good. They remind me of apple pie and they're a nice sweet treat if you're craving it.

sometext
I like eating these Pizzelles (Italian Waffle Cookies) with ice cream. That's probably because they're like waffle cones but in the shape of a flat cookie. I like making ice cream sandwiches with these.

And now for some randoms...
sometext
I've been using up my candles (hoorah!) and so I found this really helpful site that showed a different yet more simple way of removing wax from candle jars. I didn't like the mess and difficulty that came with boiling the candle jars in hot water and didn't fancy the freezing method either. This method, however, seemed effortless and most simplest.

sometext
And, I'm happy to report that it worked like a charm!

sometext
From time to time you should clean your hair brushes. Simply put a dollop of your shampoo in a bowl large enough to submerge your brushes in and pour hot boiling water in it and stir. Place your brushes in and that should sanitize and clean your brushes.

sometext
And lastly, I got a few freebie packages in the mail.

sometext
SampleSource where you get to try sample products.

sometext
sometext
And I also signed up for this Elle Beauty Box and was one of the lucky ones to get one! I'm super intrigued by the Covergirl Mascara.
